Caddisflies are aquatic insects that build protective cases around their bodies. In fly fishing, a "caddis hatch" refers to the emergence of adult caddisflies from these cases, which often triggers a feeding frenzy among fish.
During a caddis hatch, fish actively feed on the emerging adults, pupae, and larvae, making it a prime time for fly fishing. Anglers imitate these different life stages with various fly patterns, such as dry flies to mimic the adults, nymphs to represent the larvae, and emergers to imitate the vulnerable stage between larva and adult.
