TCO Fishing Report – August 10, 2020
Trout fishing in the area has slowed as water temps continue to warm mid-day, please do your part and use you thermometer and be off the water before temps reach 70 degrees. High-elevation lakes are a great option this time of year where fish are less prone to these warmer days. Fishing on the Truckee will be best at first light until 9-10 depending on water temps. Nymphing remains best during this time and crawdads dead drifted under the indo or tight-lined in the faster water can produce some nice fish before breakfast! The main bugs for the Truckee will be Crawdads, Stoneflies (Golden & Nocturnal), PMD's, Caddis (small Rhycos & coming soon October Caddis) and a few midges and BWO's as well. For the persistent dry fly angler hopper dropper set ups and some PMD's on top have been an option as well. Streamer fishing is expecting to improve as fall weather increases.
The Little Truckee still has fantastic flows for this time of year and water temps remain cool throughout the day in this tailwater fishery. As is typical though, fishing pressure remains very heavy out here and with the increased interest in the sport the overall fishing pressure in the North Tahoe area fisheries has been exceptional this year. In our opinion this is a great time to venture out to quieter waters away from the usual rivers and lakes in the area for a better chance at great fishing opportunities and to keep our local fish populations healthy for years to come. Get out a map and start exploring some of the smaller waters that are abundant in our area, there aren't many waters here that don't contain fish!
