TCO Fishing Report – August 31, 2020

Fall seems right around the corner. We are having cooler nights now, albeit warm still during the day. These shorter days and cooler nights will help improve fishing on the river in the next couple of weeks. Fishing has still been good for those willing to get out at first light and fish until mid-morning. We are still recommending anglers fishing the rivers to carry thermometers and stop fishing if and when water temps reach 68. Fishing from the Boca confluence to state line has been best as it will stay cooler later into the day. Overall, town has quieted down quite a bit and those fishing mid-week will find a lot of open river with few other anglers. The main bugs are PMD's, Golden Stones, BWO's, Caddis, Midges and Crawdads. We are expecting to see the big bugs of fall here soon, and both October Caddis And Nocturnal Stonefly patterns should be in your fly box in anticipation for these hatches.

Overall the Little Truckee is still fishing well as flows hold strong at 150 CFS and water temps are still cool throughout the day. Fishing pressure has eased a little bit here but 6x tippet and dries or nymphs from sizes 18-22 has still been the name of the game for these educated fish. It seems the PMD hatches have been slowing down for the bugs of fall and anglers fishing here should have a good assortment of Midges, BWO's in both dries and nymphs and some small worm patterns as a hail mary.
