TCO Fishing Report – September 15, 2020
Starting last week the Tahoe National Forest is closed to all recreation. This includes most of our lakes, creeks and rivers. This will be reevaluated weekly by the state. Please call the shop with the most up to date info on these closures.
As of now the Truckee river is open from the Prosser Creek confluence to the state line of Nevada. These cool nights have really helped the water temps in the river and we are seeing them top out in the mid 60's. Fish have responded almost instantly to this week of fall weather and fishing has improved dramatically. The main game is still nymphing Stoneflies, BWO's, Midges, PMD's, and October Caddis but streamer fishing is also a great option as fall progresses.
The flows will shift quite a bit this week as they lower the flows out of Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake so our local chapter of Trout Unlimited can do some fish habitat restoration along Glenshire Drive. To make up for the low water through town they will be letting more water out downstream and fishing in the canyon will still be excellent. Let's all do our part to stay fire safe out there and hopefully we will be able to get back out to our favorite waters soon!
